Keirsey-Bates Temperament Sorter

Why does NELS use the Keirsey-Bates Temperament Sorter (KBTS)? The KBTS is one way to increase our self-understanding and to recognize that there are fundamental variations in the ways we all approach the world. Coming to a clearer understanding of ourselves in relation to others is an important aspect of leadership. In addition, we use the scores in the creation of the small group assignments to help insure interactions among diverse personality types. During the week at NELS, we will work with the KBTS in more depth during one of the Leadership Development sections.  The KBTS survey will be mailed to applicants after their application has been received and approved.

Please keep in mind that there are no right or wrong answers, that no temperament is better or worse than any other, and that this test is not meant to rigidly categorize you. It is simply a learning tool, and we have found it to be an effective one when used appropriately.
