Sermons
We are looking for an
ordained UU minister to give one sermon per month during the
congregational year from September through June, inspiring our hearts
and our minds and also:
Affirming
our UU principles
Affirming
our Open Circle UU Purpose as defined in our bylaws
Being
in alignment with our consensus process and community-led
congregation
Drawing
from many sources including world religions, Jewish and Christian
teachings, humanist teachings and earth-centered traditions
Spiritually
centered and theologically diverse
Providing
safe sacred space
Operating
through shared ministry
Working
against oppression
These services would
require working with the Celebrations and Expressions Committee (CEC)
to coordinate sermon topics with the rest of the Open Circle sermon
schedule. A coordinator from the CEC will be available to help the
minister by creating the order of service, finding persons to help
with the service (lighting the chalice, doing the For All Ages,
etc.), and coordinating music with the choir. Our services take
place at 4:30-5:45 pm on Sundays. Circle meetings are the second
Sunday of the month form 4:30-6:00 pm.
Pastoral
care
We are looking for a
trained UU minister who affirms our covenant, mission, and vision to
be available for pastoral counseling, pastoral visits (hospital,
members in need), and rites of passage (births, weddings, funerals,
hospice, etc.) This would require being present at Open Circle
services to establish a relationship and being available as needed.
Outreach
We also need someone to
be a visible presence both within Open Circle and in the community at
large. This would involve interfacing with other religious groups and
leaders in the community as well as representing Open Circle to
groups with which we could work together on anti-oppression
activities. The person would also contact visitors and welcome new
members.
Inspiration
and Congregational Growth
We also need someone to
create programs related to adult RE, anti-oppression work, building
individual theologies, and other topics.
Time
Estimate
Open Circle Unitarian
Universalist does not generally meet during the months of July and
August, although some summer programming of social events or social
justice classes may occur. Typically summer (July and August events)
would not require ministerial services. As envisioned, our
consulting minister would be contracted to continue pastoral care and
community outreach as needed for the summer month of August.
(con’d reverse
side)
We would expect to
contract for services with the following as a guideline:
Sermons 1 service
per month (excluding July & August)
Pastoral care: 5
hours per month (excluding July)
Outreach: 4 hours
per month (excluding July)
Inspiration and
Congregational Growth 4 hours per month (excluding July)
Contract: $200/sermon;
$25/hr for other services through June 30, 2008
