Who We Are and What We Do
The Liberal Religious Educators Association (LREDA) is an anti-racist,
welcoming professional organization open to liberal religious educators and
those supportive of religious education. LREDA promotes the religious growth
and learning of people of all ages and advocates for and supports religious
educators and the field of liberal religious education.
LREDA has Chapters in some Districts and is run by a Board of members.

LREDA supports and advocates for a growing diversity of religious
educators, leaders and programming to serve the expanding diversity of our
congregations. We affirm this also within our membership, welcoming women and
men of every age, race, physical ability and sexual orientation. We support
the anti-oppression and diversity initiatives of the UUA and our
congregations.
LREDA does this by providing continuous education, networking and
sharing resources, advocating for professional recognition, and providing
assistance and encouragement for religious educators. We offer a common forum
where we can learn from and share with one another the great variety of
skills and depth of knowledge, which we, together, possess
LREDA promotes the religious growth and learning of people of all ages
and advocates for and supports religious educators and the field of liberal
religious education.
LREDA: helps disseminate program ideas, resources, and
leadership training materials; provides assistance and encouragement for all
persons responsible for Unitarian Universalist religious education
programming; serves in a consultative and advisory capacity to the Unitarian
Universalist Association Departments of Faith
Development (formerly Religious Education) and Ministry and Professional
Leadership; and articulates the philosophy, curriculum, and methodology
of liberal religious education.
LREDA advocates on behalf of its members for the application of the
Guidelines for Professional Religious Educators in congregations.
LREDA strives to be a welcoming and anti-racist organization and
affirms a wide diversity of people within its membership.
LREDA provides guidance to liberal religious educators and to the
congregations they serve
LREDA organizes an annual Fall Conference
LREDA arranges workshops and lectures at GA ,
including the prestigious Fahs Lecture .
LREDA administers a grant for congregations
that are committed to reaching fair compensation guidelines for religious
educators
LREDA has recently established the LREDA Endowment, with a goal of
raising at least $250,000 with pledges and gifts over the next several years.
Income from the Endowment could fund publications, lectures, innovative
continuing education, programming and research on the horizons of religious
education.
LREDA has recently established the LREDA Scholarship fund to provide
resources for educators to attend LREDA events.
LREDA-sponsors the group LARGE for Religious
Educators serving large congregations LARGE meets for an add-on day following
the Fall Conference to discuss the unique needs of working in large
congregations, providing religious educators with new resources and ideas to
implement in their congregations.
