Where did this come from? Who wrote it?
The initial idea for a Code of Ethics for leaders of campus ministry groups came from the UU Campus Ministry Advisory Committee. The Steering Committee of the Continental UU Young Adult Network (C*UUYAN) asked that the Code be written for all young adult peer leaders, so that it could have broad use in our movement. The Code of Ethics has been adopted by C*UUYAN and the Office of Young Adult and Campus Ministry for all of our leaders, including committee members, conference leaders, consultants and trainers.
In September, 2004, Michael Tino, UUA Director of Young Adult and Campus Ministry, assembled a group of young adult leaders, religious professionals and ethics experts to examine what would be in the code. The working group used a formal consensus model for all decision-making, including e-mail discussion of particular words used in the Code. Between September and December, this group worked to produce the document you see today. The document was then submitted for review to colleagues, professionals and communities with identities that often marginalize them in our society and its institutions.
