UU Acronyms

APF (Annual Program Fund)—A source of income for the UUA, to which each congregation is requested to contribute a certain amount.

AYS (About Your Sexuality)—A UUA-published curriculum for use in UU Youth groups.

CLF (Church of the Larger Fellowship)—An organization for people who do not belong to a local church. They have an office at the UUA headquarters and put our a monthly publication called quest.

Con Con (Continental Conference)—The annual YRUU Continental Conference which is held in a different region of the continent each year. As of 2005, Con Con is on hiatus.

CUC (Canadian Unitarian Council)—An organization of Canadian UU's, which as a whole, is a member organization of the UUA.

CU2C2 (Council of Unitarian Universalist Camps and Conferences)—An organization of UU camp sites, conference centers, and regularly occurring conferences.

C*UUYAN (Continental Unitarian Universalist Young Adult Network)—The UU network for Young Adults aged 18-35.

DE (District Executive)—A full time person employed by their district and by the UUA to do a lot of the district's business.

DRE (Director of Religious Education)—The individual employed by a local congregation to run the RE program.

DRUUMM (Diverse and Revolutionary Unitarian Universalist Multi-cultural Ministries)—An affiliate organization of the UUA for self-identifying People of Color.

GA (General Assembly)—The annual business meeting of the UUA, to which congregations send delegates. The youth participants form a Youth Caucus every year to discuss business and plan social events, with assistance from the Youth Office.

IARF (International Association for Religious Freedom)—An organization made up of groups from 20 different nations. The UUA is a member of this organization, which holds a conference once every three years and has special programming for youth.

ICUU (International Council of Unitarians and Universalists )—A newly-formed organization of Unitarian and Universalist societies from around the world.

LDC (Leadership Development Conference)—For both youth and adults, and can take place on the local, district, ad continental level.

LRY (Liberal Religious Youth)—The organization for UU youth up until 1983 when it was dissolved and YRUU was created.

MRE (Minister of Religious Education)—A minister who specializes in Religious Education, sometimes hired by a local congregation in addition to a parish minister.

OPUS—The week long annual conference of the Continental Unitarian Universalist Young Adult Network (C*UUYAN).

OWL (Our Whole Lives)—A curriculum by the UUA and UCC for use in UU youth groups.

POC (People of Color)—A term used to describe a person who self-identifies as a Person of Color.

RE (Religious Education)—Education regarding religious issues. It is also a UUA department at 53 Beacon Street designed to handle the development, consultation, and maintenance of all denominational UU RE programs and curriculum.

REACH (Religious Education Action Clearing House)—A packet of RE materials contributed by local congregations and UUA staff. They are sent to congregations as a means of promoting denominational Communication and networking.

SC (Steering Committee)—An executive committee

UUA (Unitarian Universalist Association)—The association of all the Unitarian Universalist congregations in Canada and the U.S. Is also used to refer to the UUA headquarters in Boston.

UUOBGLTC (UU Office of Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian, and Transgender Concerns)—A UUA department organized to help educate people and establish local groups regarding lesbian and gay concerns. Interweave Is the grassroots membership movement with the same focus.

UUMA (UU Ministers Association)—An organization for UU ministers.

UUSC (UU Service Committee)—An associate organization, which works for social justice around the globe, and is located in Cambridge, MA.

UU UNO (UU United Nations Office)—An associate organization for the purpose of representing the UUA to the UN and keeping UU's informed about the UN. The UN office and the Youth Office together plan the annual UN Youth Conference on Disarmament.

UUWF (UU Women's Federation)—An organization which represents women's concerns within the UUA.

UUWO (Unitarian Universalist Washington Office)—The office of the UUA’s Faith In Action Department in Washington D.C.

UUYAN (UU Young Adult Network)—A continental network of young adults ages 18-35.

YAC (Youth Adult Committee)—A common name for district youth governing organizations.

YRUU (Young Religious Unitarian Universalists)—An organization for UU youth ages 14-20. The YRUU Youth Office is located at 41 Mt. Vernon St. in Boston, MA.
