The Internship Clearinghouse
The Internship Clearinghouse serves ministerial candidates and internship sites. Under the supervision of the Director of Ministerial Credentialing, the Clearinghouse's coordinator works with:
- Prospective interns in finding, designing, and completing internships. To this end, the coordinator maintains two databases: one of available Unitarian Universalist Association Internship Sites and another of Prospective Interns, and is available to answer questions, provide information, and assist prospective interns in creating a high-quality internship experience.
- Congregations in developing new internship sites, finding interns, and strengthening existing programs. The coordinator works with supervisors, intern committees, and governing boards about issues that may arise during an internship. The Internship Clearinghouse also administers the internship stipend grant program which provides matching funds for new internship sites.
News and Information
New Internship Manual Now Available
The 2009-2010 Ministerial Internship Manual was released on the 1st of September and is the version that all interns, supervisors, and intern committees should be using. From this point forward, the Manual will be revised annually, and everyone involved with an internship will be expected to use the current year’s version. We’ve found that there are changes in rules, policies, expectations, and/or best practices over the course of any given year. So we hope that by incorporating these into an annually-updated manual, everyone will be able to stay current with these changes. For anyone planning ahead, the 2010-2011 edition of the Manual will be available on or before September 1, 2010.
Recent MFC Policy Changes
- Full-time internships must be for at least nine months. Part-time internships extend over a total of 18 months at a minimum of 20 hours per week.
- All interns must have interviewed with a Regional Sub-Committee on Candidacy prior to the commencement of their internship. (Effective September 2010)
Regional Subcommittee schedules fill up quickly and I recommend that you make your appointment as soon as possible. Find your RSCC contacts.
Reminder to Current Interns
All interns need to send me their final Learning/Service Agreement drafts by the end of their second month. Email attachment is preferred. I will review your LSA to ensure that it meets MFC requirements and will then send you a letter of approval.
For Future Interns
For those of you who are planning to do an internship in 2010-2011, you may want to consider creating a Prospective Intern profile so that sites that are looking for an intern can contact you. Register as a Prospective Intern.
Forms
The current Learning/Service Agreement and Evaluation forms are located at the back of the 2009-2010 Internship Manual. Instructions on using the forms are included in the Manual.
Questions and Consultations
Just a reminder that I’m available for consultation at any time during the internship or when you are making internship plans. If you have questions or need clarification or guidance on any internship-related issue, please email me and if we need to speak by phone, we can then set up a phone appointment. Please feel free to be in touch at any time, even if it’s just to let me know how things are going!
Yours in faith,
