Chapter 8: Worship

The purpose of worship at a YRUU (Young Religious Unitarian Universalists) conference is to build community and create a space where youth can explore the meaning of religion in their lives. Worship comes from the word worthship—a time to experience the worth of each individual and of the community. Coming together with the intent of sharing spirituality can be a powerful cohesive force. The content of worship comes from the conferees; the feeling of building, creating, and sharing together allows for the development of trust. By designing their own worship, young people are able to develop and express ideas about God/dess, about religion, and about life in meaningful ways—the root of youth empowerment.
