The Worship-Planning Workshop
Begin a worship-planning workshop by asking the conferees to brainstorm ideas on a topic you have brought. Ask people what they would like done during the service. Does anyone know a good song or a reading fitting to the theme? Take advantage of people's special talents and abilities. Be creative. One of the most important things for the coordinator to remember in planning a worship is to delegate responsibility, which increases the chances that the finished product will be a group result and truly express the conference community. Not only will delegation take a burden off the coordinator's shoulders, but it will empower conferees. Also, distributing responsibility to other conferees develops important leadership experience, giving those involved a chance to gain confidence as well as to practice skills. Any delegation of responsibility demands follow-up! Do not assume that everyone understands their tasks completely.
Everyone has something to offer. One does not need a perfect voice or the ability to play guitar or the desire to read in front of a group to play a part in the service. There are many ways to contribute; you can display someone's artwork around the room, or have a group greet people at the door and usher them to their seats.
