For Congregational Presidents and Anti-Racism Teams
At the 1997 General Assembly, Unitarian Universalist delegates voted to become an anti-racist multicultural association. This vote was the culmination of a five-year process, which began, with the passage of the 1992 GA resolution for racial and cultural diversity. The Unitarian Universalist Association has continued to seek answers to difficult questions about race, oppression, white privilege, and reconciliation and encourage our constituents to engage in this important work. The Association offers a comprehensive array of anti-racism, anti-oppression programs that are available to congregations, clusters, districts, organizations, and religious professionals on the path to becoming welcoming multiracial, multicultural organizations.
As of December 2007
- Approximately 205 congregations have experienced a Jubilee One workshop in the past 10 years.
- More than 4700 religious and lay leaders have participated in anti-racism events, including the Jubilee Two power analysis training.
- JUUST Change Consultants have served 30+ congregations, districts, divinity schools, and UUA staff groups, since the consultancy was introduced in July 2005.
- More than 360 congregations have participated in Beyond Categorical Thinking.
- We have 495 Welcoming Congregations.
In addition to the above programs, Groundwork is the Anti-Racism training and organizing program of Unitarian Universalist youth and young adults.
The Office of Justice Making has provided regular reports to the UUA Board of Trustees. These reports, along with the Racial Justice Statements from General Assembly, provide a recent history of the development and implementation of some of the ARAOMC projects, programs, and conferences over the last several years.
