Stand on the Side of Love in Arizona, July 28-30th

When I felt my call to the ministry in 1995, I knew it would be a challenging path. But I never anticipated that I would end up fighting against a police state. We want a half million people in Phoenix on May 29th. Even if it is not easy, we need each person who is able, to follow the challenging path to Arizona.

—Rev. Susan Frederick-Gray, Minister
Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Phoenix (UUCP)

Arizona's repressive anti-immigrant law is scheduled to be implemented on July 29th. Join us for the National Day of Non-Compliance! Arizona's immigrant community is organizing and preparing to mount the political, legal, and economic pressure needed to restore constitutional protections to the state. Unitarian Universalists from all over the country will be assembling in Phoenix July 28-30th.

Page will continue to be updated—come back often!

Please let us know if you're coming!

Registering for the event allows us to contact you with crucial information and to better plan for logistics.

Schedule

The situation in Arizona is fluid. The federal government has asked for an injunction against the implementation of SB1070, which if successful would affect our activities. (We will be there to witness regardless of the ruling, but our tactics may be different.) Thus please keep in mind that the tentative schedule is subject to change.

Lodging & Transportation

See logistics for lodging and transportation. For those of you in need of financial assistance, a travel subsidy is available. See the same page for details.

Recommended Items to Bring

  • Sunscreen
  • Hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Water bottle
  • Sleeping bag (for those using home hospitality)
  • It's monsoon season, so a light rain poncho

What can I do if I can’t go to Phoenix?

For those who can’t make it but want to contribute, the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Phoenix is accepting donations for their travel fund.

And even if you can't go to Phoenix, you can still make your voice heard locally! States across the country are considering similar legislation. You can act in solidarity with UUs in Phoenix while at the same time telling local officials "not in my state." See Standing on the Side of Love for Arizona, Wherever You Are.

Be sure to take action: No Anti-Immigrant Law in My State!

For more information contact socialjustice @ uua.org.

This work is made possible by the generosity of individual donors and congregations. Please consider making a donation today.
