As our government continues to escalate its enforcement-only tactics, one of the biggest casualties is children. ICE rounds up and detains undocumented immigrants without thought to whether they have children, who have then been left to fend for themselves. The Humane Enforcement and Legal Protections (HELP) for Separated Children Act would identify such kids, inform state and local services, and help prioritize the release of parents so that they can take care of their children. This legislation is much needed if we are a nation that values families and children. The HELP Act was reintroduced on July 21, 2011 by Senator Franken (D-MN) and Representative Woolsey (D-CA-6), with strong support from Sens Durbin (D-IL), Gillibrand (D-NY), and Klobuchar (D-MN). Please urge your Members of Congress to support the HELP Act and keep our families together.
