 Who We Are

Representing congregations in the Midwest and upper South, the Heartland District uses its resources to promote and develop strong, growing congregations that interact with other UU congregations, their communities, the District, and the UUA.
The Heartland District was formed in 2000 from a merger of the Unitarian Universalist District of Michigan (UUDOM) and the Ohio Valley Unitarian Universalist District (OVUUD).  The Heartland District, one of 20 Unitarian Universalist districts in the nation, serves 8,099 members and 53 congregations in the states of Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, and Ohio.

Our vision is of Heartland District cultivating a beloved identity of strong connections among congregations, the District, and the larger Unitarian Universalist movement.  Heartland District provides its staff and volunteers the opportunity to deepen their faith while doing District work.  In our vision, Unitarian Universalism's vitality improves the quality of spiritual and religious life in the Heartland District.

Search Begins for Settled District Executive

The Heartland District of the UUA is beginning the search process for our next settled district executive.  We call on all Unitarian Universalists who are members of Heartland District congregations and are interested in serving on the search committee to please contact Judy Buxton, Trustee-at-Large of the District Board of Trustees.  And, if you know of someone who is qualified to serve on this critical committee, please share that name with the president.

We could not have a more important task than choosing the best Search Committee possible to find the District Executive best suited to serve in Heartland.  The time commitment is approximately January to May.  The work generally involves two or three two-hour conference calls, and two weekends (Friday night and all day Saturday) sometime between January and May.  We want the Committee to be as diverse as possible in all respects so that as many groups, programs, and passions as possible will be represented.  Each member must be well rounded, skilled, balanced, and capable of handling the significant responsibility with which this committee will be entrusted.

Please submit contact information, including your UU congregation and details about qualifications for this position to Judy Buxton at jkbuxton@gmail.com.  Please include contact information for two references.  The deadline for submissions is December 15.

The district board will select five persons to serve and communicate their selection to the individuals and to the entire district membership by January 1.

Yours in the liberal faith,
Nana' Kratochvil, President
Heartland District Board of Trustees
