Large Congregations Conference: Governance and Ministry in Large Congregations
From Thursday through Sunday, March 17-20, 2011, leaders from large* Unitarian Universalist (UU) congregations will gather to learn and celebrate what is unique about life in a congregation of this size. The Unitarian Universalist Association’s (UUA's) 8th national Large Congregations Conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Dan Hotchkiss will be the keynote presenter. Author of the highly-acclaimed new book Governance and Ministry: Rethinking Board Leadership, Hotchkiss is a senior consultant with the The Alban Institute and an ordained Unitarian Universalist minister, bringing both an insider’s familiarity and a cross-denominational perspective to the delicate and challenging balance of governance and ministry.
Following Hotchkiss’s all-day presentation on the Friday, on the Saturday there will be more than thirty ninety-minute workshops on a variety of topics relevant to larger congregations, including complete tracks on stewardship in challenging times, social networking and ministry, congregational growth, contemporary worship, and temporal leadership.
Who Should Attend
The Large Congregations Conference is intended for religious professionals and lay leaders from congregations with 550 or more adult members. Congregations are encouraged to send teams of at least three or four people in order to derive the greatest benefit from the conference program.

Recognizing that we continue to live in challenging economic times, the UUA has frozen the registration fee for this conference at the 2008 level: $480 per person (based on double occupancy) or $695 (for single accommodations). The registration fee includes the cost of the program, three nights’ accommodation at the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis, and most meals. (The registration fee for commuters from Twin Cities congregations only will be $300, which includes the cost of the program and most meals.)
Conference check-in will be from 2 p.m.-6 p.m. on Thursday, March 17. The conference will close at 12 noon on Sunday, March 20. See the complete conference schedule for details.
