Growing Our Witness
As the Unitarian Universalist Association's (UUA) commitment to public witness increases, more resources will be needed to proactively witness our faith. Growing our Witness funds will support socially responsible investing strategies as well as grants to encourage congregations to become more environmentally friendly, and will provide support for the work of the Commission on Social Witness. In addition, we seek to become a more visible and credible voice on a variety of issues by engaging our youth in social justice, providing educational resources and increasing our presence in the public square.
Funding Ideas
- Walking the Walk, Promoting Responsible Investments: to advance the work of the Committee on Socially Responsible Investing by providing dedicated staff support and resources.
- Expanding Our World: to continue and enhance uuworld.org, which consistently deepens the lives of our members and leaders.
- This, We Believe: similar to The National Public Radio “This I Believe” series, we seek to conduct our own “This I Believe/The Time is Now” program.
- Rolling Up Your Sleeves for Justice: a plan to help congregations plan effective, accountable and safe mission trips, and to inspire collaboration among congregations.
- Keep the Candle Burning: by creating and providing web casts, podcasts, television magazine series, and other multimedia materials to increase our presence in the public square.
- Peacemaking DVD and Learning Guide: support the production of comprehensive peacemaking resources to be distributed by the Commission on Social Witness to religious educators and social justice groups in Unitarian Universalist congregations across the country.
These are just six of the many funding ideas that have been proposed.
To grow our WITNESS, we must imagine programs that will help us share our unique Unitarian Universalist perspectives on relevant issues. We welcome, we want and we need to hear your thoughts, dreams, comments, and practical proposals for funding—in all five areas of the Now is the Time campaign.
To help us continue the conversation, please email us at campaign @ uua.org, or call (888) 792-5885 and ask for a member of the campaign team. Now is the Time!
