Growing Our Diversity
Many have called for further racial identity development resources for youth and young adults. Many of our congregations need assistance in becoming accessible for people with disabilities. Our denomination needs to recruit more ministers of color. New members in many of our congregations speak more than one language or only speak Spanish. Bisexual/ Gay/ Lesbian/ Transgender/ Queer youth are increasingly finding a home in our congregations, but need more support. These projects and more will be supported by funds raised for Growing our Diversity.
Funding Ideas
- Understanding Identities: enable Unitarian Universalists (UU) of all ages to explore how racial, ethnic and cultural identity affects us.
- Support for Ministers of Color: to attract, encourage, and retain more ministers of color in Unitarian Universalism.
- Program Coordinator for Youth and Young Adults of Color: to support the spiritual and leadership development of youth and young adults of color.
- Trans-racial Families or Families Transcending the Color Line: trans-racially adopted youth could benefit from more support from our congregations.
- Home Away from Home: to create a full-service Unitarian Universalist internet-based congregation.
- Theological Deepening: to articulate and promote a UU Latino/Latina Liberation Theology.
To grow our DIVERSITY, we must design programs to welcome, nurture and sustain every person who seeks a liberal religious home. We encourage, we want and we need your ideas, dreams, comments and proposals for funding—in all five areas of the Now is the Time campaign.
To help us continue the conversation, please email us at campaign @ uua.org, or call (888) 792-5885 and ask for a member of the campaign team. Now is the Time!
