Farewell from Marcy Bailey-Adams
Dear Friends,This letter is being sent to all members of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) Legacy Society to let you know that after many, many months of careful consideration, I have decided that it is time for me to leave the Unitarian Universalist Association staff. Today is the last day of what have been 16 wonderful years of service to you, Unitarian Universalist congregations and entities, districts, and the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations. I will be forever grateful for this time and the friendships made in faith.
I came to this work, which has been a lay ministry for me, at the beginning of 1992. Here, I found a religious home at a point in my life when I expected never to find one. With your help and encouragement, I have reclaimed my religious identity, as a humanist with strong roots in the spirit of life, the mandate for bringing compassion, justice, and hope wherever it is needed. Here, I have been fortunate and blessed to assist so many in fulfilling dreams to leave a legacy for our liberal religion. Here, I have marked the passing of many people I knew as lively, generous, dedicated Unitarian Universalists.
Gratitude and sadness commingle as I take my leave of this ministry. I am absolutely confident that I leave you in very good hands and hearts—good people who will take on the mantle of service I have worn. It is time for me to tend to personal and family needs, however difficult it is for me to say my farewells. I can only embark on this next adventure secure in the knowledge that your spirit will walk with me, and mine with you, for the rest of our days.
