Unitarian Universalist Couple Featured in Wall Street Journal

Many Unitarian Universalists know the preaching and writings of the late Rev. Dr. Frank Schulman—including his This Day in Unitarian Universalist History and A Manual of Worship. Many are also familiar with Mrs. Alice Southworth Schulman’s tireless work on behalf of families and children as a social worker, religious educator and mother of four. But few know of the extraordinary financial generosity that this couple has demonstrated in support of Unitarian Universalist institutions.

As reported in The Wall Street Journal’s "Gift of the Week" column, Frank and Alice donated $2 million to the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA)  to benefit Unitarian Universalist students and professors at Meadville Lombard Theological School, Harvard Divinity School and Simmons College. The couple committed an additional $2.5 million to the UUA for yet unnamed purposes, creating one of the largest bequests in the history of the Association.
