Dori Davenport
Gift of the Week—April 2, 2008
Who Gave It: Dori Davenport
Who Got It: Friends of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA)
How it Happened: Central Midwest District Staff Faith Development and Growth Director, Dori Davenport, has demonstrated her commitment to the UUA in a very uncommon way. For years, Dori has been a committed donor to the Friends program, but her recent gesture is one that sets her apart.
Dori and her fiancé are planning a small wedding. Their wedding invitation reads:
“… Emily Post and Miss Manners notwithstanding, we ask that you not give us anything more than the gift of your presence (in body or spirit, or both!), your support, your love, and your rejoicing with us, whether nearby or from far. For those whose willpower is too weak to comply, or who could not face their own mothers if they did so, we’d like you to consider making a gift to the Friends of the Unitarian Universalist Association.
She and her fiancé both feel strongly that they want to decrease the quantity of material objects in their lives and homes. They are also mindful that life-changing events often inspire generosity. Dori isn’t sure how much money her small wedding will generate, but feels strongly that her wedding should be about giving and not receiving.
This work is made possible by the generosity of individual donors. Please consider making a donation today.
