Housing & Hospitality for Phoenix 2012
GA Housing Reservation System
The General Assembly (GA) Housing Reservation System will open on March 1, 2012. By using the Housing Reservation System, attendees earn meeting space for the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) at the hotels and the convention center. Additionally, the UUA is able to negotiate on behalf of our block of attendees for sustainability and accessibilities requirements. We are also able to assist attendees booking rooms within our block with housing issues they may encounter during General Assembly.

$125 per night single/double; $150 triple; $175 quad
- Marriott Renaissance (formerly the Wyndham), Co-headquarter Hotel

Room Rates/Taxes: Special UUA convention rates are guaranteed through May 16, at which time rates become subject to change. All rates are per room per night, are subject to a 13.27% tax (subject to change) and include fees paid to the local Convention and Visitors Bureau to offset convention center rental. The hotels will assign specific room types upon check-in, based upon availability. Please be advised that requests for specific room types cannot be guaranteed.
All hotels require a credit card to guarantee a reservation. Your credit card may be charged one night’s room and tax when your hotel receives your reservation in late May. This is dependent upon the individual hotel’s deposit policy. If you cancel your reservation prior to 72 hours of your arrival, any deposit charged to your credit card will be refunded. Otherwise, any deposit charged will be applied to your final hotel bill.
Email Acknowledgments: These will be sent after all reservation bookings, modifications, and cancellations. Please carefully review your acknowledgment for accuracy. If you do not receive an email acknowledgement within five business days, please contact the UUA Housing Department at hsgcoor@visitphoenix.com.
Modification/Cancellation: No-Shows and cancellations made within 72 hours of the arrival date may result in a charge to your credit card for a one night stay plus applicable tax (currently 13.27%—subject to change).
Dormitory Style Housing
The General Assembly Planning Committee is currently working to contract with Arizona State University (ASU) for dormitory housing, recognizing that economic accessibility is a priority for our attendees.
We anticipate that Single, Double, and ADA rooms will be available at Taylor Place dormitory at ASU, 120 E. Taylor Street (about one half mile from the convention center). Dormitory space will be sold as a five-night package, with check-in Wednesday, 6/20 and check-out on Monday 6/25. Price: TBD, subject to contract negotiation.
Home Hospitality with Phoenix Unitarian Universalists
Members of the local Unitarian Universalist congregations will welcome GA attendees into their homes for some Southwestern hospitality and breakfast. A variety of accommodations to fit single, double, youth, dietary, ADA, and other preferences will be made available within a few miles of the Phoenix Convention Center.
Roommates
The UUA-GA email list is a non-official electronic bulletin board for members of the GA community (for UUs to share GA-related information, questions and discussion, as well as look for roommates, rides etc.).
Criteria for General Assembly Hotels
The General Assembly Planning Committee seeks to plan our meeting in concert with our shared values of responsibility, inclusivity, and equality. We demonstrate our institutional commitment to these values by actively working toward making our meeting more environmentally sustainable, by practicing care and concern for the issues related to accessibility, and by acting consistently within our constituency.
To those ends, we seek convention hotels that have committed to anti-racism and anti-oppression; that demonstrate diversity in all levels of employment, including upper management; that feature accessible facilities in full compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations; and that can offer low cost options for those attendees whose attendance depends on the economic accessibility of the available accommodations.
The Planning Committee evaluates all housing options for GA considering the ease of getting around and physical accessibility to the convention area. Each facility completes an initial screening for ADA compliance and an onsite follow-up accessibilities survey is conducted. We seek sites that are free of architectural barriers to the maximum extent possible and that give careful consideration to the needs of the elderly and the young.
Hotels are required to demonstrate a commitment to the environment through recycling, energy conservation, and water conservation programs.
The UUA supports union labor and a fair wages for hospitality industry workers and we consider local industry conditions when conducting hotel searches.
