Housing & Hospitality for Phoenix 2012
GA Housing Reservation System
By using the General Assembly (GA) Housing Reservation System, attendees earn meeting space for the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) at the hotels and the convention center. Additionally, the UUA is able to negotiate on behalf of our block of attendees for sustainability and accessibilities requirements. We are also able to assist attendees booking rooms within our block with housing issues they may encounter during General Assembly.

Room Rates/Taxes: Special UUA convention rates are guaranteed through May 16, at which time rates become subject to change. All rates are per room per night, are subject to a 13.27% tax (subject to change) and include fees paid to the local Convention and Visitors Bureau to offset convention center rental. The hotels will assign specific room types upon check-in, based upon availability. Please be advised that requests for specific room types cannot be guaranteed.
All hotels require a credit card to guarantee a reservation. Your credit card may be charged one night’s room and tax when your hotel receives your reservation in late May. This is dependent upon the individual hotel’s deposit policy. If you cancel your reservation prior to 72 hours of your arrival, any deposit charged to your credit card will be refunded. Otherwise, any deposit charged will be applied to your final hotel bill.
Email Acknowledgments: These will be sent after all reservation bookings, modifications, and cancellations. Please carefully review your acknowledgment for accuracy. If you do not receive an email acknowledgement within five business days, please contact the UUA Housing Department at hsgcoor@visitphoenix.com.
Modification/Cancellation: No-Shows and cancellations made within 72 hours of the arrival date may result in a charge to your credit card for a one night stay plus applicable tax (currently 13.27%—subject to change).
Reserving Accessible Housing: Those in need of accessible hotel accommodations will be making their reservation using the same housing reservations system as all other GA attendees. Read Instructions for Reserving an ADA Room.
University Style Housing
The General Assembly Planning Committee has contracted with Arizona State University (ASU) for residence hall accommodations, recognizing that economic accessibility is a priority for our attendees.
Sleeping rooms were made available at Taylor Place residence hall at ASU, 120 E. Taylor Street (about one half mile from the convention center).
Rooms were sold as a five-night package, with check-in Wednesday, 6/20 and check-out on Monday 6/25. The cost was be $260 per double room; roommate matching not provided. You can stay in a double as one person and not utilize the second bed, but the price remains the same.
No cooking, laundry, pets, alcohol, or smoking. All rooms have two single beds with bedding provided. Cleaning, towel, and linen services are not available during the five-night stay. Free wireless Internet. Single ADA rooms may be available upon request.
All ASU reservations must have been made or cancelled by May 10, 2012. The UUA needed to prepay for the dorms in order to secure them, so credit cards were charged for the full fixed room rate amount of $260 on or around May 16th. No refunds will be provided.
Home Hospitality with Phoenix Unitarian Universalists
Enjoy Home Hospitality, Arizona Style!
Volunteers from the UU Congregation of Phoenix, Valley UU Congregation, and West Valley UU Church are coordinating home hospitality together for this year’s Justice General Assembly, and offering inexpensive lodging with an easy registration process.
To make GA even more accessible, many of the hosts will also have lower-cost "place to sleep" options available in non-private rooms.
Continental breakfast will be included for all home hospitality guests.

Criteria for General Assembly Hotels
The General Assembly Planning Committee seeks to plan our meeting in concert with our shared values of responsibility, inclusivity, and equality. We demonstrate our institutional commitment to these values by actively working toward making our meeting more environmentally sustainable, by practicing care and concern for the issues related to accessibility, and by acting consistently within our constituency.
To those ends, we seek convention hotels that have committed to anti-racism and anti-oppression; that demonstrate diversity in all levels of employment, including upper management; that feature accessible facilities in full compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations; and that can offer low cost options for those attendees whose attendance depends on the economic accessibility of the available accommodations.
The Planning Committee evaluates all housing options for GA considering the ease of getting around and physical accessibility to the convention area. Each facility completes an initial screening for ADA compliance and an onsite follow-up accessibilities survey is conducted. We seek sites that are free of architectural barriers to the maximum extent possible and that give careful consideration to the needs of the elderly and the young.
Hotels are required to demonstrate a commitment to the environment through recycling, energy conservation, and water conservation programs.
The UUA supports union labor and a fair wages for hospitality industry workers and we consider local industry conditions when conducting hotel searches.
