1993 GA participants were invited to attend the Thomas Jefferson Ball wearing period costumes. Rev. Hope Johnson asked, "Must African Americans attend such events in rags and chains?" Rev. Johnson and Rev. Barbro Hansson, then Thomas Jefferson District President, confronted their diverse perspectives, reconciled, and found friendship along the way.
