Volunteer Opportunities
The General Assembly (GA) Volunteer Committee provides GA registration in exchange for volunteer work at GA. Volunteer Applications (PDF) must be submitted by March 31.Adult (21+) volunteers are required to contribute 24 hours (16 hours if working in Children's Programs). Youth (14-20) volunteers are required to contribute 14 hours (10 hours if working in Children’s Programs).
Available Assignments
Accessibility Services
Provide
information and assistance to individuals with mobility difficulties and those
who request other services. Experience with providing services to persons
with disabilities is desirable.
Ambiance
Decorate the spaces used by GA; hang UU banners and other
decorations. Volunteers must be available to work Wednesday to hang
decorations and move “props.”
Children's Programs—six-month to five-year olds (Must be at least 18
years old; background checks required. Applicants must provide two
references; one must be from a church officer).
Assist with on-site
childcare for infants to 5-year-olds. Most volunteers are needed Thursday
through Sunday. Interest in working with children is essential.
(Parents may not volunteer for their own child’s program).
Children's Programs—six to ten-year olds (Must be at least 18 years

Assist with on-site day camp for 6 to
10-year olds. Most volunteers are needed Thursday through Sunday.

Children's Programs—eight to fourteen-year olds (Must be at least 18
years old; background checks required).
Assist Young Fun staff off-site
with 8 to 14-year olds. Most volunteers are needed Thursday through Sunday.

Information Desk
Provide information about Fort Lauderdale; maintain message
boards. Volunteers needed to work with the convention center staff
providing concierge service, restaurant information, etc. Volunteers
should be outgoing and have some familiarity with the local area.
Greeter
Greet people arriving at the convention center; answer
questions and give directions. Most volunteers are needed Tuesday through
Friday.
Registration
Work with UUA staff at registration. Most volunteers are
needed Tuesday through Thursday. Should be friendly, detail-oriented
persons.
Service Project
Staff booth in the exhibit hall to collect donations
and promote a service project that will benefit the Fort Lauderdale community.
Usher
Count votes during Plenary sessions; maintain order at large functions;
distribute materials; check badges. Volunteers work daily Wednesday
through Sunday, and should be friendly but firm.
Volunteer Office
Handle volunteer check-in and short term, last minute
assignments during GA. Most volunteers are needed Tuesday through
Saturday.
Applications (PDF) are made available March 1 and are due by March 31. Volunteers are notified of their acceptance in April, before the May 1 registration rate increase.
