How General Assembly Events Are Selected

GA Programmed Events

Programmed events are official programs that are listed in the General Assembly (GA) printed program book and open to all GA registrants. Registration is required for attendance. Examples of programmed events include workshops, worship services, hearings, lectures, panel presentations and performances.

Who selects GA programmed events?

  • GA Program Development Group (PDG)—New this year: a team comprised of Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) staff and GA Planning Committee members is responsible for developing and/or inviting proposals for quality, mission-based GA programs. Proposals to the PDG were due November 16, 2009. Contact meetingplanner @ uua.org for more information.
  • GA Planning Committee: The GA Planning Committee is seeking innovative programs and distinguished speakers that will appeal to many Unitarian Universalists (UUs) attending GA in Minneapolis. The deadline for Planning Committee sponsorship proposals was October 15. Notifications will be made by email in mid to late November. Application Guidelines (PDF, 2 pages).
  • UUA Board of Trustees: The Board is responsible for developing and selecting programs related to the business and governance of the Association.
  • Associate Member Organizations: UU Service Committee (UUSC), UU United Nations Office (UU-UNO) and UU Women’s Federation (UUWF) may each sponsor up to three GA programs that relate to the mission of their organization.
  • UUA Districts and Church of the Larger Fellowship (CLF): On Wednesday afternoon, Districts and CLF may host an In-Gathering for GA attendees from their congregations. Districts are welcome to meet together with other districts (as regions).

GA Private Events

Private events are invitation-only and are not listed in the GA program book. GA registration is not required for attendance. Examples of private meetings include business meetings, food functions, receptions, pre/post GA meetings (usually business or conference) of organizations for their own agendas. Requests for private events must come from an authorized sponsoring organization. Space is assigned based on availability. Contact meetingplanner @ uua.org for more information.

Who can request a GA private event?
The use of UUA contracted meeting space designated for private events may only be requested by UUA staff, UUA elected committees, Board appointed committees, and Board approved sponsoring organizations. Sponsoring organizations must have Board approval by November 1, 2009, and must be classified as an Associate Member Organization, UU Theological School, UU Professional Organization or Independent Affiliate.
