Green Sanctuary Program 2008-2009 Summary

Since the Office of Congregational Stewardship Services assumed management in July of 2008:

  • 25 new Green Sanctuary (GS) congregations (now a total of 98 accredited congregations)
     
  • 46 new Green Sanctuary candidates (now a total of 116)
     
  • 20% of all Unitarian Universalist (UU) congregations are now participating in the Green Sanctuary program
     
  • All 19 Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) districts now have Green Sanctuary congregations
     
  • 7 Canadian congregations are now involved in the Green Sanctuary program
     
  • Conducted transition meetings with Rev. Katherine Jesch
     
  • Cleaned and updated all Green Sanctuary files
     
  • Created a new Green Sanctuary logo
     
  • Launched a new Green Sanctuary website on UUA.org
     
  • Distributed  a document identifying new management of the program
     
  • Posted a free-of-charge Green Sanctuary manual on the UUA web pages
     
  • Created job descriptions for Green Sanctuary review team members
     
  • Recruited 3 new review team members
     
  • Standardized Green Sanctuary application template
     
  • 80 Green Sanctuary candidate congregations responded to our survey
     
  • 44 candidate congregations were contacted by phone or email
     
  • Developed re-accreditation criteria for current Green Sanctuary congregations
     
  • Created a press release packet in partnership with Office of Information and Public Witness
     
  • Compiled a list of newsworthy GS projects
     
  • Collaborated with UU Ministry for Earth (UUMFE), UU Service Committee (UUSC), and Office of Advocacy and Witness to create the Environmental Justice Passport collaborative project (for General Assembly)

What we plan to do:

  • Create a new Green Sanctuary manual (currently working with a professional developmental editor)
     
  • Institute 6-month check-ins with candidate congregations
     
  • Create covenanting process for Green Sanctuary congregational committees
     
  • Create annotated book and video resources and make available on Green Sanctuary web pages
     
  • Distribute copies of the Renewal DVD to all UU congregations and invite them to show the film
