Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Ministries

Risking a new vision for our world since 1973.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Ministries (LGBT Ministries) is guided by the vision that someday we will be able to put ourselves out of business and that oppression against people of all ages, abilities, colors, and economic classes who are marginalized on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity—whether the oppression be overt or subtle—will be a thing of the past.

For resources on welcome, ministry, and advocacy for people with marginalized sexual orientations and gender identities, please check out LGBT Welcome & Equality.

This Unitarian Universalist Association office was previously called the Office of BGLT Concerns. The name was changed in 2010 in recognition of the fact that “lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender,” or LGBT, has become the dominant way to refer to people whose sexualities and/or genders do not conform to society’s norms.

LGBT Ministries is a department of the Multicultural Growth & Witness staff group. Multiculturalism encompasses many aspects of identity—race and ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, ability/disability, class, age, language, citizenship status, and more. Our LGBT ministry efforts are grounded in the intersections of these identities.
