Districts and Regions of the Unitarian Universalist Association
UUA Districts
There are nineteen Districts of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) in North America. The mission of the UUA Districts is to serve as the primary local resource for congregations and to help extend Unitarian Universalist influence in the larger community.
The District Executive serves as the UUA's local presence and is the first person to contact about UUA services and your relationship to the Association. Program Consultants, who are employed in most Districts, serve the District in particular program areas based on local priorities. The District staff perform direct service to UUA congregations, including consultations on a wide variety of congregational issues such as long-range planning and organizational development, ministerial transitions, leadership training, and conflict management.

UUA Regions
District staff is increasingly working across district lines in five regions. In a recent talk, the Reverend Terasa Cooley, Director of Congregational Life, talks about Regions:
Our constant mission is: how do we serve our congregations in the best ways? How do we advance the work of congregations? How do we best continue in partnership with local congregations? In order to have a range of people and a range of skills to best serve our congregations we are moving toward a shared staff team model with a Lead in each Region.
Regional Leads
- Central East Regional Group (Rev. Joan Van Becelaere, jvanbecelaere @ uua.org)
- Southern Region (Rev. Kenn Hurto, khurto @ uua.org)
- MidAmerica Region (Rev. Ian Evison, ievison @ uua.org)
- Pacific Western Region (Rev. Nancy Bowen, nbowen @ uua.org)
- New England Region (Rev. Sue Phillips, sphillips @ uua.org)
All of the Regional Leads currently head UUA districts within their respective regions. Congregations will continue to be served by the staff in their district and now, increasingly, by staff in their region as well.
