Notifications and Information
The UUA Board of Trustees Report to Congregations
The Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) Board of Trustees held their quarterly meeting in Philadelphia, PA, from January 17 to 20. UUA Secretary Tom Loughrey has prepared a letter to congregations sharing news from that meeting.
The letter begins, "Greetings from the Board of the UUA! We've just wrapped up our quarterly meeting in Philadelphia, where we enjoyed spending time with Young Adult UU's. Meeting in places outside Boston is one way the Board has sought to reach out in recent years to broaden the conversation and deepen connections. Sending this letter to you is another."

More Ways Your Delegates Can Attend General Assembly
Your congregation can be represented by off-site delegates during General Assembly (GA) 2013 in Louisville, KY. Even if they cannot be physically present at GA this year, congregational delegates, ministers, and credentialed directors of religious education can participate in the business of GA by serving as off-site delegates.
Off-site delegates can:
- Watch live streaming video of all Plenary Sessions online.
- Vote online and speak during debates in GA business sessions from home, office or congregation, or as part of a congregational cluster.
- Listen to discussions and vote during business mini-assemblies.
Get more information for your off-site delegates on UUA.org.
Reminder from Church Staff Finance: Clergy Have Dual Tax Status
Those who meet the definition of employee, including ministers, are to receive a W-2 and not a 1099. The IRS has detailed criteria for what constitutes an employee.
We recommend that congregations purchase a copy of the Church and Clergy Tax Guide by Richard R. Hammar, J.D., LL.M., CPA. This annually updated volume answers almost all tax questions relevant to religious bodies and ordained clergy.
Questions? Please contact the Rev. Richard Nugent, Director of UUA Church Staff Finances at email@example.com.

The UUA offers visual "Quotes from the Wayside" to help make your social media shares stand out.
You can use these images on congregational websites, share them on Facebook or Twitter, or use them in any other way that benefits your congregation. Taking Action against Anti-Muslim Bigotry Webinar
In our society, anti-Muslim bigotry is often used for political gain and to justify human rights violations. This kind of rhetoric has a negative impact on our communities and affect us all. Learn how to counter Islamophobia in your day-today life during our "Taking Action against Anti-Muslim Bigotry" webinar on Thursday, February 28th at 7:00pm ET.
This webinar, presented by Christina Warner, Director of the Shoulder-to-Shoulder Campaign, will answer "What is Islamophobia and how can we counter it?"
Discrimination should never be permitted for any reason. It may take time, but we can overcome Islamophobia in our communities. This webinar will help you learn how to tell stories, bust myths, and change minds one conversation at a time. For more information visit Standing on the Side of Love.
The 2013 Minns Lecture Series Begins Friday, March 8th
In the spirit of William Ellery Channing, who once said, “I was always young for liberty,” the Minns Lectures for 2013 will be structured around three lively interactive presentations on how our free faith tradition speaks to, and in the past reached out to, young people—and how today’s revolution in social media can reshape, enlarge, and invigorate that outreach today. Join us on March 8-9 in Boston, MA, in person or online, for these important lectures.
Visit the Minns Lectures website for more information.
