Sample Adoption/ Implementation Calendar for Restated Retirement Plan

All currently participating employers must submit a new Employer Participation Agreement to the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) Retirement Plan Committee by June 30, 2014, to signal their intended adoption, including implementation date, if they wish to remain a participating employer in the Unitarian Universalist Organizations Retirement Plan ("the Plan") as Restated. Until their new Agreement is received and acknowledged, Employers continue to operate under their existing participation agreement and the Plan document before 2014 restatement (PDF, 50 pages).

Congregations and UUA-related organizations not currently participating in the Plan may request a Participation Agreement at any time; write to retirementplan@uua.org.

Sample Employer Adoption/ Implementation Calendar

November/ December 2013

January 2014

  • HR/Personnel Committee, Board, Minister, and/or Executive Team review options presented by the Plan Restatement.
  • Decide:
    • Whether to Auto-Enroll Staff
    • Amount of Base Employer Contribution Percentage (required minimum is 5%)
    • Whether to Match Employee Contributions, and if so, to what percentage
    • Whether to exclude any components of Compensation.
  • Review options with Staff and address concerns.
  • Seek clarifying information from the UUA/Retirement Plan staff.

February 2014

  • Board makes decisions concerning the options listed on the Participation Agreement and described in related documents.
  • Board selects intended implementation date—which must be the first of a month, January 1 - July 1, 2014, and cannot be retroactive.
  • Board passes Plan Restatement Adoption Motion.
  • Board completes, signs, submits 2014 Participation Agreement to the UUA Retirement Committee.
  • UUA Retirement Committee acknowledges receipt and confirms implementation date.

March 2014 (and Beyond)

  • Implementation can occur on the first of a month, January 1 - July 1, 2014, following acknowledgement of a valid Employer Participation Agreement by the Retirement Plan Committee and consent regarding date of implementation.
