Thirty Days of Love, Day 23: Love Your Hero

By Carey McDonald

Date: Feb 7 – Celebrate Courageous Love Staff Member: Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries Carey McDonald Description: Do you have someone in your life--a family member, friend, coworker, minister, teacher, neighbor, etc.--that has been your personal hero for courageous love? To Do: Valentine's Day is a week away, so send a card to your hero today to let them know how much you appreciate the impact they have had on you. Click here to download a card that you can personalize. One person I have always admired for her courageous love, savvy and commitment is a family friend and former colleague, Donna Collins. Donna has a heart as big as the world, and has used it to promote arts education in Ohio for decades. Growing up, I got to know her as a family friend who was always full of warmth. Later, I came to know Donna in her professional capacity of the Executive Director of the Ohio Alliance for Arts Education. I saw Donna's love for children, arts and education translate into tangible changes through her work at the OAAE. Despite the unforgiving nature of nonprofit advocacy, Donna's courageous love for these issues and people has never wavered, even when it seemed that the world was allied against her or that it simply didn't care. Donna, thank you for your work, but perhaps more importantly, thank you for being a role model of loving engagement and commitment to something that really matters. – Carey.
