Thirty Days of Love, Day 13: Sharing

By Erik Mohn

Date: Saturday, January 28 – Share food with others. Staff Member: Spirituality and Service Consultant Erik Mohn Description: Invite people from different parts of your community to come together to share a meal, or feed others in your community. Discuss issues that affect your community and highlight the power each one of us has to make a difference. Consider using the theological reflection guide or “story of us, story of now” guide to spur dialogue. On Sunday January 15, 2012, my friend had a bunch of people over to share in a huge meal. His father and younger brother were coming over to his house with chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, bread, and wine. Now, he could have easily eaten with them and saved the rest as leftovers for the week, however, he chose to invite 10 of his friends over to enjoy the meal with him. And, indeed we did. We ate, we drank, we laughed, we shared stories and we and engaged in intellectual debates from international travel to society’s supreme obsession with technology. It was also the day before Martin Luther King Day, which naturally weaved its way into our conversation. It was a great evening and I am happy to be part of such a community. - Erik.
