Meet the YMAC

By Carey McDonald

As the members of the Youth Ministry Advisory Committee, we help advise the President of the Unitarian Universalist Association on youth issues. In 2009, the Youth Ministry Working Group released its final report. Among its many recommendations was to create a committee that could advise the UUA the administration and staff on the Working Group's recommendations and ongoing issues of youth ministry. At each of our meetings, we discuss new initiatives in the UUA, exciting new programs in our districts and congregations, and brainstorm ways to improve our beloved community of youth. We are a mix of youth and adults from across the nation, and we are all delighted to have the chance to serve you. Here's a little more about who we are: Michael Han I'm from the Pacific Northwest District. I've been serving at the national level ever since my first GA in 2006. Since then, I've served GA Youth Caucus Staff as FUNTIMES Manager and then as Dean, as well as serving as one of the members of the Youth Ministry Working Group. I am currently studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Washington, and in my spare time I enjoy cycling and repairing old computers. Rev. Elizabeth Stevens I’m a lifelong UU, an ordained parish minister, and an energetic advocate for youth and youth ministry. I’m also the mom of two UU youth, a musician and a gardener.

Raised in Portland, OR and recently relocated to Ohio for school, I’m a first-year college student with a passion for community building. I first experienced vibrant youth ministry at a Pacific Northwest District con in 2008, and I’ve been hooked ever since. When I’m not with UUs, I can often be found working for my student cooperative, singing in an a cappella group, promoting the sex-positive movement, and looking for cats to snuggle.
