This topic, while inclusive of reproductive choice, provides UUs the opportunity to educate and act on a broader and deeper level, aligning us with a movement for reproductive justice began by women of color whose reproductive "choices" were impacted by more than the legality of abortion. If we are to sustain a long and challenging public campaign with integrity, we must ground ourselves in Unitarian Universalist history and theology, and in relationship to each other and our reproductive justice partners. A brand new curriculum from the UUA, "Reproductive Justice: Expanding Our Social Justice Calling," was written for all of these purposes; to equip UUs with tools for effective public advocacy, to tie us with our theological and historical resources, to help us understand the complexities of reproductive justice, and to strengthen our relationships with each other and others. January 22, 2013 marks the 40th anniversary of the landmark Roe v. Wade case which made abortion legal in the United States. Preaching on this topic would be a great way to launch the curriculum in your congregation. The UUA is partnering with the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice (RCRC) to create a preaching resource on the anniversary, including readings, questions, statistics, and stories.
