Summer Leadership for Youth – Apply Now!
Leadership schools or other extended leadership training opportunities are increasingly popular in the summer months.  We’ve pulled together a listing of things happening this summer around the country (and in Canada) for you. We’ve organized them by which district offers the opportunity, but do read the descriptions as space may be available for youth from other areas. Look for another post soon about other summer opportunities for youth.-Ed. National Multicultural Leadership School for Youth and Young Adults of Color. July 27-31, 2012, Boston, MA Learn more about the MLS here.  The Multicultural Leadership School is a training designed specifically for Youth and Young Adults of Color, ages 15-30. Space is limited and applications are due by May 15th.   Northern New England District (others welcome to apply) Goldmine Leadership School. August 12-18, 2012, Saco, ME at Ferry Beach Learn more about Goldmine in the NNED here. Space is limited and you will need to apply.  Youth in the NNED will receive preference, but youth from other districts are welcome to apply.  Applications are due April 20, 2012.   Canadian Unitarian Council (US youth welcome) Goldmine Leadership School. July 29 – August 4, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Learn more about CUC’s Goldmine here. Space is limited and applications will open April 1 and are due June 15.  Preference will be given to Canadian youth, but youth in the US are welcome to apply.   Metro NY District (others welcome to apply) Youth Leadership School. July 22-29, 2012, Murray Grove Retreat Center, NJ Registration opens April 15th with an early-bird deadline of April 30th (reduced cost).  Registration closes May 15th.  Space is limited. Application forms are available here. Metro NY youth will receive preference, but youth from other districts may also apply.   Prairie Star District, Central Midwest District and Heartland District Youth Midwest Leadership School. July 15-21, 2012, Beloit College, Wisconsin Learn more about the YMLS here. There is an “early bird discount” if you register and pay in full by May 1.  Learn more and register at the above link.  Scholarships are available to offset the cost of attendance.  Registration closes on June 1, 2012.   Southeast District Shelter Neck Youth Camps – Leadership Camp. June 24-30, 2012 Learn about Shelter Neck Camps, including the Leadership camp and others, here. Shelter Neck welcomes youth from North Carolina and surrounding states. Deposits are due by April 15th to reserve a spot.   Pacific Northwest District (others welcome) Goldmine Leadership School. Sunday, July 22 through Saturday, July 28, Bremerton, WA Learn more about Goldmine in the PNWD here.  You can also apply online. Space is limited and you will need to apply.  Youth in the PNWD will receive preference, but youth from PSWD, PCD and MDD are all welcome and encouraged to apply. Applications are due May 29, 2012.   More Info to come on the following opportunities: In the Southwest UU Conference (SWUUC) Dwight Brown Leadership Experience encourages congregational teams to include youth.  More details will be posted in the coming weeks at www.swuuc.org.
