Bridging

"Life is a Journey", and, "You Can't Take it With You": True AND False

Striking out on new adventures – whether moving around the block or across the country – also means leaving your youth group behind, where deep relationship and spiritual connection are built right in. And though you may miss the support youth groups provide, an exciting part of this transition is the opportunity to discover how to join with other UUs to express your faith in a new way - in your way. We call it Bridging, because being on your journey – from high school studies to college, or the military, or a new apartment or job – doesn't mean you don't take your faith with you to your new location.

The Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministries of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) can help – fill out this Bridge Connections form with your contact information and where you'll be. We'll connect you to communities and resources that make maintaining your spiritual life easier. So, even if you don't want to go to church right now, you will know who the contacts are should you want or need a faith connection in the future.

We can also put you in touch with UUA young adult and campus ministry associate Rev. Annie Gonzalez. Annie will listen to how you want to craft your new faith linkage (whether it's small group ministry or starting a campus ministry group at college or something new) and can suggest resources, communities or maybe even mentors that can help make your connection happen.

Later this fall we'll be publishing Becoming, a new pocket guide for young adult UUs. Fill out the Bridge Connections form: we'll let you know when it launches and how to get your free copy!

Bridging is a unique transition for every person, as there are numerous ways to span the gap between high school and what lies ahead. Let us know if we can help you build your bridge - or strap on your parachute, or rappel over the edge, or launch your blue boat - as you span the gulf between what you have known and what lies ahead!
