Albert Schweitzer. UUA Archives.

Albert Schweitzer (1875-1965) was an honorary member of the Church of the Larger Fellowship. As a medical missionary in Africa, he opened hospitals for the local people. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1952 for his humanitarian work.

“In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.”
—Schweitzer
