Samuel Atkins Eliot II (1862-1950) became Secretary of the AUA in 1898 and was pivotal in an almost total reorganization of the Association. Samuel Atkins Eliot served as the President of the AUA from 1900 - 1927 and raised money to build the new building at 25 Beacon St. He came from a long line of prominent Unitarians; one grandfather was a mayor of Boston, the other was pastor of King’s Chapel, and his father was president of Harvard University. Eliot ended his career as the minister of Arlington Street Church in Boston, MA.
