Worship in Unitarian Universalist Congregations

Worship services in most Unitarian Universalist congregations are offered on Sunday mornings. Visitors are warmly invited to attend and may participate in whatever way is most comfortable for them. Unitarian Universalists take pride in practicing radical hospitality, and while many other aspects of congregational life can vary, our congregations are all welcoming places for newcomers.

Elements of a typical Unitarian Universalist worship service may include:

On special occasions, worship will incorporate holiday celebrations or other special ceremonies to commemorate life’s passages. Some congregations offer religious education classes for children during worship service, or have child care available for parents whose children prefer not to attend service.

What members and visitors wear for Sunday services varies from congregation to congregation. Respectful dress is appreciated, but few congregations expect formal attire.

Following the service, there is often a casual gathering where members and visitors can get to know one another. This can be an excellent time for newcomers to find out more about Unitarian Universalism and the practices of a particular congregation in an informal atmosphere.

To experience Unitarian Universalism firsthand, we invite you to visit a congregation near you!
