Youth & Young Adults

Most Unitarian Universalist congregation has a vibrant youth presence. Youth ages twelve to eighteen usually participate in either the Junior (middle-school aged) or Senior (high-school aged) youth groups, though each congregation has its own system. Some congregations also allow eighteen-to twenty-year-old youth to take part in their youth groups. Youth groups usually combine religious education with youth worship, social justice work, and community-building activities such as pizza parties, movies, and field trips. Many congregations also include youth in other parts of congregational life, including the choir, committees, and more. Youth ministry is a vital part of the life of our congregations.

Unitarian Universalism is also committed to supporting and nurturing its young adults through their first jobs, college, new relationships, new communities, and the other stresses and joys of their young adult years. Young adult and campus ministry (college) groups not only offer support to their members but also give young Unitarian Universalists (UUs) a chance to explore and deepen their faith, live their UU values, and to just spend time with other UUs their age. Even in those communities where there is not yet an organized young adult group, UU ministers and congregations welcome and support young adults. "Young adult" is usually defined as 18 to 35 years old.
