"On a trip to Sozopol we met a gentleman who inquired who we were and upon explaining we were a group from a Sophia orphanage he insisted on paying our way (30 of us) on a boat tour of the coastal harbor. We met people like that..."—Bob Melaragno (Bulgaria)
Volunteers For Peace (VFP) promotes International Voluntary Service as an effective means of intercultural education, service learning and community development. We provide projects where people from diverse backgrounds can work together to help overcome the need, violence and environmental challenges facing our planet.
We organize and promote projects where nations join together to improve life on our planet and volunteers experience a microcosm of our world. Through the exchange of ideas and international understanding, our projects are practical ways to both prevent and resolve conflict while meeting local community needs. By encouraging and providing opportunities for voluntary service we are sowing the seeds of a better future for all.
With over 3000 projects to choose from in more than 100 countries around the world, Volunteers For Peace has a project just right for everyone. Participants can volunteer with kids, teach English, restore the environment, assist with social projects such as HIV/AIDS awareness, and more!
VFP is part of the worldwide International Voluntary Service movement. When participating in a project you can expect intercultural immersion and the joy of working together to meet one of the many challenges facing our planet. You will change and improve lives in a tangible way!
We are a member supported organization! In 2010 our members participated in over 515 international voluntary service projects and donated over 43,775 hours of their time to communities around the world.
Each year VFP organizes 40-60 projects in the U.S.. Our programs infuse local organizations with energy and assistance. In 2010 volunteers in our US projects contributed 23,000 hours of service to non profits, parks and recreation departments, and local communities!
Since 1982, Volunteers For Peace has been placing thousands of volunteers in international voluntary service projects across the globe!Through our large networks of partner organizations, we can set you up with a project that meets your needs and helps fulfill a need in the local community where the project is housed. Projects typically take place over 2-3 weeks but can last up to a year. Each short-term project includes volunteers from at least four other countries working alongside members of the local community to accomplish a specific goal. Simultaneously, volunteers are building life-long friendships and developing cultural understanding across borders of nationality, race, religion and beliefs while contributing to a tangible project outcome!
