Appointments and Term Limits

Realizing that the effectiveness of any committee depends on the vitality and energy of its members, an appropriate balance of experience and fresh viewpoints is maintained by limiting Annual Program Fund (APF) Committee terms to two years, with three re-appointments possible. Therefore, the maximum total membership on the Committee is limited to eight years (four two-year terms). Terms begin on July 1.

Some Committee members are first appointed to fill out an unfinished term.  In such cases, if the person has filled LESS than half of the two-year term he/she is eligible to serve a full eight years more. If the person has filled MORE than half of the two-year term, he/she may only serve six more years.

Liaisons from related organizations may be appointed for two year terms, or as specified by the sponsoring organization.

Calendar and Procedure for APF District Chair Appointments

  • September—APF Director and APF Committee General Chair contact district whose APF Chair's term will expire at the end of the fiscal year (June 30). They may provide input that they want the district to take into consideration during the reappointment process.

  • Fall—District Board reviews APF activity for the fiscal year just ended. District evaluates work of Chair and decides whether to recommend reappointment. If reappointment is not recommended, the district will recruit a new nominee.

  • February—District President sends nominee's (new or reappointment) name to APF Committee General Chair by February 28.

  • March—APF Committee General Chair sends list of nominees to Chair of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) Board Committee on Committees, with copy to Executive Vice-President.

  • April—UUA Board makes appointments and sends an official letter of appointment. APF Committee General Chair and APF Director will contact the new members and will provide information about the Committee and their role on it.

  • General Assembly (GA)—APF Director and APF Committee General Chair may provide training for appointees attending GA.

  • July 1—District Chair term begins. Terms are for two years, with three reappointments possible (maximum 8 years).
