Ministry & Professional Leadership

Members of the Ministry and Professional Leadership (MPL) Staff Group assist our ministers, religious education directors, administrators, and music directors from discernment through retirement and beyond. Directors within the Staff Group and their assistants provide credentialing and settlement services for UU ministers and credentialed religious educators; offer counsel in career development, congregational relations, and financial planning; work to strengthen collegial relations among ministers and other professional leaders; and, in collaboration with other Unitarian Universalist Association Staff Groups, strive to deliver excellent services to our congregations and religious professionals, especially during times of transition or crisis. We work closely with the Unitarian Universalist Ministers Association (UUMA), Liberal Religious Educators Association (LREDA), Ministerial Fellowship Committee (MFC), Religious Education Credentialing Committee (RECC), Association of Unitarian Universalist Administrators (AUUA), Unitarian Universalist Musicians Network (UUMN), Professional Leadership Coordinating Council (PLCC), and other stakeholders in the nurture of our religious professionals.

The MPL Director oversees the work of the Staff Group, serves as Executive Secretary of the Ministerial Fellowship Committee and the Religious Education Credentialing Committee, and works closely with the Director of the Congregational Services Staff Group when questions of professional misconduct arise. The Director also provides pastoral counsel to ministers, religious educators, and other religious professionals; offers advice on professional ethics, conflict management, and international service;  and speaks and writes on a broad range of ministerial and professional leadership concerns.
