National Alliance of Street Vendors of India

The hundreds of thousands of street vendors in India came together in 1998 to form an advocacy group to protect their rights. NASVI is now a national alliance made up of vendors and their local organizations from 14 Indian cities and counts more than three million members.

NASVI currently works on issues including:

  • Campaigning for social security for unorganized workers.
  • Campaigning against unfair fees, evictions and regulations implemented by municipalities.
  • Working to increase the number of women members in NASVI.

The UUA Holdeen India Program provides core support for organizing, advocacy and capacity building.
