Human Rights Watch
Human Rights Watch (HRW) is dedicated to protecting the human rights of people around the world. It stands with victims and activists to prevent discrimination, to uphold political freedom, to protect people from inhumane conduct in wartime, and to bring offenders to justice. It addresses the issue of human rights violations by investigating and exposing abuse and holding perpetrators of abuse accountable. In doing so, governments and those who hold power are challenged to end abusive practices and respect international human rights law.
Human Rights Watch has worked in India for over fifteen years to investigate and denounce human rights abuses, and protect the rights of those who face discrimination and violence. With research staff in Mumbai, HRW conducts intensive research missions throughout India, produces in-depth reports, and carries out sustained advocacy with national and international policy makers and the press. This research and advocacy assists the efforts of local and national groups that work to protect the rights of dalits, people affected with HIV/AIDS, and other marginalized populations.
