Center for Rural Studies and Development (CRSD)/ Vikasa Adhyayana Kendramu (VAKE)

The Center for Rural Studies and Development (CRSD)/ Vikasa Adhyayana Kendramu (VAKE) formed in 1998 in Andhra Pradesh with the objective of empowering the rural poor, especially Dalits and women, by developing and advocating for anti-poverty policies. VAKE's main focus is to facilitate Dalit organizations, people's organizations, local women's organizations and networks to take up larger issues that will influence and change policies of the government.

The main goals are:

  • To take up advocacy work with the government on the issues and the programs related to the poor,
  • To support and strengthen social activists, NGOs, Dalit organizations, and people's organizations.

CRSD has developed programs within the Campaign on National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme—Andhra Pradesh. These broad based programs have the positive affect of benefiting additional populations, particularly Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes all over the state of Andhra Pradesh.
