Dr. Anthony Stringer
Dr. Anthony Stringer is a Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine and Director of the Division of Neuropsychology and Behavioral Health in the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta. In his professional life, Tony provides diagnostic and rehabilitative care to persons with brain injury, stroke, and epilepsy and conduct research on brain recovery of function and rehabilitation outcome. He serves on the board of directors of the American Board of Clinical Neuropsychology, the national agency responsible for the examination and accreditation of clinical professionals in my field.
Tony served as a lay minister for the Emory University Unitarian Universalist Student Association, and the Thurman Hamer Ellington (THE) Church. He co-founded the Thurman Hamer Ellington Percussion Choir which performed in the Opening Ceremony of the 1996 Olympics. THE Church and Percussion Choir were multicultural religious organizations founded on Unitarian Universalist values and principles.
He authored a chapter on lay ministry for the book All Are Chosen that is based on his experience in the racially diverse THE Church. This chapter has served as a resource for others interested in establishing intentionally multicultural Unitarian Universalist (UU) congregations. Tony currently serves as the lead lay minister for the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Atlanta, where he edited and published a lay ministry training curriculum that is now in use around the country by UU congregations wishing to establish similar programs. Tony served six years as chair the Board of Trustees of The Mountain, a Unitarian Universalist-affiliated camp and conference center in Highlands, NC.
Tony lives with his wife of 30 years, Sekayi Stringer, in Stone Mountain Georgia.. Sekayi directs a day care center and is a Buddhist meditation instructor. Tony has one daughter, Ayanna, and one granddaughter, Amara. He enjoys jazz, cooking, flat water kayaking, meditation, chess, and voracious reading.
